
A late-night fire outbreak has destroyed a vehicle at a hotel in Ilorin, Kwara State, raising fresh concerns over recurring fire incidents in the state.
The incident occurred around 11:38 p.m. on Wednesday at E-Phoenix Hotel, located at Tanke Junction in Ilorin South Local Government Area.
According to the Kwara State Fire Service, firefighters responded swiftly to the emergency and successfully contained the blaze before it could spread to other vehicles or parts of the hotel.
The fire reportedly affected a Honda Accord, with flames largely confined to the engine compartment. Emergency responders were able to extinguish the fire within minutes, preventing what could have escalated into a major disaster.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been triggered by a spark from the vehicle’s faulty wiring system, which ignited flammable components in the engine

Authorities have since advised motorists to prioritise routine vehicle maintenance, especially electrical systems, to avoid similar incidents.
Vehicle owners were also urged to avoid makeshift repairs and to keep basic firefighting equipment, such as portable extinguishers, readily available.
The fire service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that rapid response remains crucial in minimizing damage during emergencies.
This latest incident adds to a growing list of fire outbreaks recorded in Kwara State in recent months, highlighting the need for increased safety awareness and preventive measures.
