
Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have recorded a major breakthrough in their fight against violent crime with the arrest of a notorious kidnap kingpin, Ubong Michael, popularly known as “Ubong Boy.”
The suspect was apprehended on April 22, 2026, in Ikot Aka Village, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, following credible intelligence that tracked his return to the community after reportedly going into hiding in Port Harcourt.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the 30-year-old suspect is a key figure in several high-profile kidnapping operations within the state.
Preliminary investigations linked him to the abduction of victims identified as Gabriel in 2023 and John in 2025.
Items recovered during the operation include a human skull suspected to belong to one of his victims, a human bone, two live cartridges, and a dagger.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspect has confessed to his involvement in the crimes and is currently assisting authorities with valuable information to track down other members of the criminal syndicate and recover additional weapons.
Commending the operatives for their swift and intelligence-driven response, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eliminating criminal activities across the state.
He also issued a stern warning to criminal elements, stressing that Akwa Ibom will remain a hostile environment for unlawful activities, while urging residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
The police say investigations are ongoing as efforts intensify to dismantle the entire network linked to the suspect.
