A fire outbreak has destroyed parts of a popular restaurant facility and a residential building in Awka, the Anambra State capital, leaving significant property damage but no loss of life.
The incident occurred at the Restaurants House, located behind Old English, Agu-Awka, where the fire reportedly started around midnight on Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses said the blaze began from a section of the building before spreading rapidly to the roof and other parts of the structure.
Operatives of the Anambra State Fire Service were quickly deployed following a distress call received at about 12:45 am. Firefighters arrived at the scene and worked to contain the inferno, preventing it from spreading to adjoining buildings.
According to a statement by the Media and Communication Team of the Fire Service, led by Chukwudi Chiketa, the fire was successfully extinguished after an intensive operation.
“The distress call was received at approximately 0045 hours, upon which fire service personnel were immediately mobilised and dispatched to the scene. On arrival, firefighters encountered a fire outbreak and swiftly commenced firefighting operations,” the statement read.

Authorities confirmed that although the fire caused extensive damage to roofing, furniture, and equipment within the restaurant facility, no casualties or injuries were recorded.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at the time of filing this report.
In a separate incident, a one-storey residential building at Ngozika Estate, Awka, was also affected by fire, resulting in damage to the roof, household furniture, and parts of the building structure.
The Fire Service confirmed that firefighters were promptly deployed to the scene and successfully contained the blaze before it could spread to nearby properties.
Chiketa noted that the incident occurred on April 10, 2026, adding that emergency responders remained on-site for several hours to ensure complete extinguishment and prevent re-ignition.
“The fire was effectively contained and extinguished, thereby preventing it from spreading to nearby structures. No casualties or injuries were recorded,” the statement added.
The Anambra State Fire Service reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to adhere to fire safety precautions and promptly report emergencies.
