A Nigerian woman based in the United Kingdom, Omotayo Abioye, has died after a prolonged battle with breast cancer, leaving behind three young children.

Her family has appealed to the public for financial support to cover burial expenses and assist in the welfare of her children.

According to a statement shared on X on Friday by Benjamin Kuti, a former president of Nigerians in the UK, Omotayo passed away on April 5 at the age of 40.

Describing her as a devoted mother, loving wife, and compassionate individual, the family said her life touched many and left a lasting impact on those who knew her.

“It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Omotayo Abioye, who departed this life on April 5 in the United Kingdom,” the statement read.

The family noted that she fought courageously throughout her illness and remained strong in faith despite her condition.

“She was kind, generous, and full of life, with a radiant and bubbly spirit that lit up every room she entered. She loved deeply, laughed freely, and had a beautiful gift for bringing people together,” the statement added.

Omotayo is survived by her three children, aged 11, 9, and 7, described as her pride and greatest legacy.

The family is now calling on Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to support them during this difficult time.

“In this moment of grief, we humbly call on Nigerians everywhere to stand with the family. We are raising funds to give her a befitting burial and support her children as they navigate life without their mother,” the statement said.

A fundraising campaign has been launched, with £1,160 raised so far out of a £10,000 target.

Her passing adds to recent cases involving Nigerians in the UK who have died after battling serious illnesses, raising ongoing concerns about health challenges among citizens abroad.
