
A man identified simply as Pedro has been shot dead by suspected cultists in the Idumota area of Lagos Island, Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, has heightened concerns over rising cult-related violence in the area.
According to police sources familiar with the investigation, the attackers arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on the victim at close range before fleeing the scene.
Pedro was said to have just left his friends and was on his way to visit his sister when he was ambushed.
A source disclosed, “He had just parted ways with his friends and mentioned he was heading to his sister’s place. Shortly after, two men on a motorcycle appeared and shot him at close range. He died instantly.”
Police officers who responded to the scene evacuated the victim’s body to a morgue.

Another source within the police suggested that the killing may be connected to ongoing clashes between rival cult groups in the Lagos Island area.
“Rival cult groups have been targeting each other, leading to a series of violent confrontations recently,” the source said.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, for official confirmation were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to her line went unanswered as of the time of filing this report.
This latest incident comes just days after three unidentified men were reportedly killed in a similar suspected cult attack in the Epetedo area.
The victims were said to have been ambushed while returning from a birthday party in the early hours of April 2.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding both incidents.
