The Kogi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a fresh graduate of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, while also recovering his stolen tricycle.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, disclosed this in a statement issued in the early hours of Wednesday, describing the arrest as a major breakthrough achieved through a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation.
According to the statement, the suspects Garba Godwin Ibrahim and Ashema Usman Samson were apprehended for their alleged involvement in the killing of Aminu Abubakar, a resident of the Otokiti area in Lokoja.
Abubakar, who had recently graduated and was awaiting mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps, reportedly left his home on the day of the incident with his tricycle to earn a living but never returned, raising concerns among family members.
His lifeless body was later discovered around the CBN area in Zone 8, Lokoja.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly posed as construction workers and lured the victim to a secluded location, where they attacked him and dispossessed him of his tricycle.
An autopsy confirmed that the victim died from multiple severe blows to the back of the head.

The police further disclosed that the stolen tricycle was sold to a third suspect, Kabiru Idris, in Ayingba.
Idris was subsequently tracked and arrested, and a search of his residence led to the recovery of the victim’s tricycle, along with four additional motorcycles suspected to be stolen.
He reportedly confessed to dealing in stolen items obtained from criminal networks.
Further findings showed that the two principal suspects are ex-convicts previously linked to cases of armed robbery and homicide.
The police confirmed that investigations have been concluded and the suspects have been charged before Magistrate Court 5 in Lokoja, where they have been remanded in custody.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to aid ongoing efforts to combat crime in the state.
