An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command over an alleged N20 million threat-to-life and ransom demand, in what authorities describe as a carefully executed sting operation.
The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday, noting that the arrest followed swift intelligence-led action by operatives.
According to the police boss, the case was reported by officials of the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, who raised the alarm over a serious threat accompanied by a demand for a N20 million ransom.
Acting promptly on the report, police operatives launched a targeted operation to track down the suspect. He was eventually apprehended on March 27 while attempting to collect the ransom, unaware he was walking into a police trap.

Items recovered from the suspect include an HP laptop and a flash drive, both of which are currently undergoing forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations.
Further revelations from the police indicate that the suspect has confessed to the crime and admitted involvement in a previous attempted burglary at a commercial bank, raising concerns about a pattern of criminal activity.
The command stated that the arrest is part of its broader crackdown on kidnapping, extortion, and other violent crimes threatening public safety across Lagos State.
Authorities have assured that investigations are ongoing to identify possible accomplices and uncover the full scope of the suspect’s operations. The suspect is expected to face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to law enforcement, Tijani issued a stern warning to individuals engaged in criminal activities, emphasizing that the police will continue to deploy intelligence-driven strategies to ensure the safety and security of residents.
