A joint security operation involving the Enugu State Police Command, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilante groups has successfully rescued a kidnapped woman following a gun battle with suspected kidnappers in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The operation, which took place in a forest location, led to the neutralisation of one of the suspects, while others reportedly fled with gunshot injuries.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the rescue mission was launched after credible intelligence was received on Friday concerning the abduction of the victim in Ezimo community.
Acting swiftly on the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, directed the Divisional Police Officer in Udenu to mobilise a joint task team comprising police operatives, soldiers, members of the Neighbourhood Watch, and Forest Guards.
The team subsequently tracked the suspects to Agu Orba Forest along the Ohebe-Orba axis. Upon sighting the security operatives, the kidnappers opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Items recovered from the scene included five rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, a machete, a dagger, four mobile phones, torchlights, power banks, and a cash sum of ₦51,700.
Additional materials such as food supplies and clothing were also discovered at the camp.
Commending the coordinated effort of the security agencies, CP Giwa praised the bravery and synergy displayed during the operation.
He also reassured residents of the command’s continued commitment to eliminating criminal elements from the state.
The police further urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information that could assist in tracking down and arresting the fleeing suspects.
