The Lagos State Task Force has introduced a specialised anti-crime patrol unit as part of renewed efforts to combat criminal activities and enforce environmental regulations across the state.
The initiative was officially launched on Tuesday at the agency’s headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi, by the chairman, Adetayo Akerele, who described the unit as a strategic response to rising security and environmental concerns.
Akerele explained that the newly established team would function as a rapid response unit, targeting a wide range of offences including drug trafficking, street hooliganism, activities of “area boys” (popularly known as “Omotaku”), and operations of criminal hideouts.

The unit will also address environmental violations such as indiscriminate waste disposal, as well as clamp down on quack practices, assaults on government officials, and incidents of “one-chance” robbery.
He emphasised that the agency remains resolute in its mission to rid Lagos of criminal elements, noting that intensified enforcement measures would be sustained throughout the year.
According to him, the patrol unit will operate round the clock with a proactive mandate to detect, deter, and neutralise threats before they escalate into major security challenges.
Akerele further called on residents to collaborate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information, stressing that community support is vital to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
