Golf icon Tiger Woods was involved in a car crash in Florida on Friday, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities confirmed that the incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. in the same town where Woods resides. As of the time of reporting, officials have not released details of the cause of the crash or the extent of his condition.
Police say investigations are ongoing, with a county sheriff expected to brief reporters later in the day.
Images from the scene showed what appeared to be Woods’ SUV lying on its side, raising concerns about the severity of the accident.
The development comes at a time when the 15-time major champion had only recently returned to competitive golf after a prolonged period on the sidelines due to injury.
Woods had been recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon as well as back surgery carried out in October.
