A dispatch rider has lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run accident along the Cele Bridge corridor of the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway in Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.
According to the agency, the rider was struck by a fully loaded HOWO diesel tanker while on duty. Security reports indicate that the tanker rammed into the motorcycle with force, trapping the rider beneath the vehicle. He was confirmed dead at the scene.
LASTMA officials stationed nearby swiftly secured the area, cordoning off the crash site with cones and caution tape to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of other road users.
The agency disclosed that the tanker driver fled immediately after the incident, while the vehicle has since been impounded.

The deceased rider, the tanker, and the damaged motorcycle have been handed over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.
The remains of the victim were later recovered and deposited at a morgue in Yaba.
Reacting to the development, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the incident as deeply distressing and extended condolences to the victim’s family.
He also called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the cause of the crash and ensure justice is served.
