
Three worshippers abducted during a violent attack at an ECWA church in Omugo community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, have been rescued by security operatives, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
The gunmen reportedly stormed the church during service, causing panic among congregants and residents.
Seven worshippers were initially taken, prompting an urgent response from joint security forces, including forest guards and local vigilantes.

Bolanle Olukoju, Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, praised the swift coordination of the security agencies, describing the rescue as a success while stressing that efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining victims. “
Targeting a place of worship is cowardly and unacceptable. The government is committed to protecting lives and bringing the perpetrators to justice,” she said.
Olukoju urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel, noting that ongoing forest combing operations have curtailed criminal activities in the area.
The state government reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard communities and ensure the safe return of all abducted individuals.
