
The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation following the circulation of a viral video in which a man, identified as Shawama, allegedly claimed responsibility for killing 32 people.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, clarified that there is no record of the suspect ever being arrested by the Command.
He explained that despite the uncertainty surrounding the individual’s identity, the police are treating the matter with utmost seriousness.
“As a responsible and responsive agency, the Command has launched a thorough investigation into the allegations and the confessional statements contained in the video,” Olayinka said.
According to him, the investigation will involve the use of advanced technology, including digital forensics and digital footprint analysis, to ensure credible and verifiable findings.
The police also appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could help identify and locate the suspect or any accomplices linked to the claims.

“We appeal to anyone with relevant information that can aid in the identification and arrest of Shawama or his accomplices to come forward and assist law enforcement,” he added.
Olayinka further assured residents that updates on the progress and outcome of the investigation would be communicated as developments unfold.
In the widely circulated video, recorded in Yoruba, the man was heard saying, “When they wanted to misbehave in Ibadan, I killed 32.”
He also alleged that security agencies had not only released him but commended his actions.
The footage additionally showed other individuals expressing support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring, “Even without elections, you have won.
