
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a local government council secretary and another individual at a poultry farm in Akure North Local Government Area.
In a statement on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the victims were kidnapped on Monday morning at their poultry farm located along Kajola Road in Ilu-Abo.
The abducted persons were identified as Joseph Kayode and Esther Akinlolu. Kayode serves as the Secretary of the Okeluju Local Council Development Area in Akoko North-West Local Government Area.
According to the police, preliminary findings revealed that three masked gunmen, suspected to have emerged from a nearby bush, stormed the farm. The attackers reportedly fired several shots into the air before taking the victims to an unknown destination.
Jimoh said that following the report, the police quickly deployed tactical teams and detectives to the area to begin search-and-rescue operations and strengthen security patrols.
He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, had ordered the deployment of all available operational and intelligence resources to secure the victims’ release and arrest those responsible.

Security personnel, along with local security groups, are currently searching nearby forests and surrounding communities in an effort to locate the kidnappers.
The police acknowledged that the incident has raised concerns among residents, leading to the temporary closure of some schools in the area. However, the command urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could create panic.
Residents, parents, and community leaders were also encouraged to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid the ongoing rescue efforts.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
