
Gunmen have abducted five people and killed one during an attack on Mallamawar Yari village in Gawakuke Ward of Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed that the incident occurred on Saturday night when armed men stormed the community, sending residents into panic.
Earlier reports on social media claimed the attackers disguised themselves in women’s hijabs to avoid suspicion before carrying out the assault. However, the police spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, dismissed the claim, saying the gunmen did not wear disguises.
Rufai confirmed that five people were kidnapped during the attack, while one person lost their life. He added that the victims include three women and two men.

According to him, police and other security agencies have launched efforts to track down the attackers and secure the release of those abducted.
Security operatives have also increased their presence in the area, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The attack highlights growing security concerns in several communities across Sokoto State, where banditry, kidnappings and attacks on rural settlements have continued to threaten residents.
In recent months, armed groups have repeatedly targeted villages in parts of the state, especially in border local government areas. The recurring violence has forced many residents to flee their homes and heightened fears about safety in rural communities.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies as efforts continue to address the insecurity in the state.
