
The Enugu State Police Command has detained the Sarikin Hausawa of Enugu and a prominent Islamic leader over an alleged N100 million fraud.
The traditional ruler, whose name was withheld by authorities at the time of filing this report, was reportedly arrested following multiple petitions accusing him of obtaining money under false pretences from members of the Hausa community and other individuals.
Sources familiar with the development disclosed that the suspect allegedly collected the funds through promises of facilitating business opportunities and community-related projects which were never executed.
Some complainants claimed the funds were meant for investments and welfare initiatives within the Hausa community in Enugu.

Police sources confirmed that the matter is under investigation, adding that the suspect is currently in custody while detectives gather evidence and take statements from victims.
Spokespersons for the Enugu State Police Command said the command remains committed to ensuring justice and urged members of the public to remain calm as due process is being followed.
Meanwhile, members of the Hausa community in Enugu have expressed mixed reactions over the development, with some calling for a thorough investigation to clear the air, while others urged patience until the outcome of the police probe.
Authorities assured that anyone found culpable at the conclusion of investigations would be charged to court in accordance with the law.
