The Nigeria Police Force in Osun State has commenced an investigation into a shooting and reckless pursuit involving some of its officers, which allegedly led to a young couple being hospitalised after their vehicle crashed in Osogbo.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, reportedly began after an altercation during a routine stop-and-search operation.
Eyewitnesses said officers fired shots as the couple drove away, leading to a high-speed chase that ended when the vehicle crashed into a ditch around the Itaolokan Junction to Oke Ayepe axis of Osogbo.
Confirming the development in a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the command had launched an immediate review of the incident.
He noted that preliminary findings were being compiled, including operational records and eyewitness accounts.
