
The Rivers State Police Command has detained a man identified as Mr Abuchi over the alleged killing of his wife in Amaji village, Umuoyoro Community, Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident on Thursday, saying the suspect had been taken into custody and investigations were ongoing.
“The suspect has been arrested and the Commissioner of Police has directed that a thorough investigation be carried out to ensure justice is served,” she said.
According to sources in the community, the incident occurred when the couple went to their farm in Amaji village. An argument reportedly broke out between them, during which the suspect allegedly attacked his wife with a knife, leading to her death.
The deceased was said to be a mother of two.
Residents working on nearby farms were said to have heard the woman’s screams and rushed to the scene, where they overpowered and restrained the suspect before alerting the police.

The suspect was later handed over to the Eberi Police Division in Omuma Local Government Area for further investigation.
A security source, who requested anonymity, said the suspect told investigators that he could not explain what came over him at the time of the incident.
Reacting to the development, the Centre for Basic Rights and Accountability Campaign condemned the killing and called on the police to ensure a transparent and diligent investigation.
The group’s National Coordinator, Prince Wiro, described the incident as condemnable and urged law enforcement agencies to ensure the suspect is prosecuted in line with the law.
The incident has thrown the community into mourning, with residents expressing shock over what they described as a tragic and senseless loss.
