
The Nigerian Navy is in mourning following the death of its Chief of Operations, Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, who passed away in Egypt on Thursday.
Military sources confirmed that the senior naval officer died at a hospital in Egypt, where he had travelled for follow-up medical evaluation after undergoing surgery in September 2025.
Rear Admiral Katagum was appointed Chief of Operations by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass. Prior to his appointment, he served in several strategic and sensitive positions within the Nigerian Armed Forces.
He was formerly the Director of Naval Intelligence and also served as Deputy Defence Adviser at the Nigerian Embassy in Paris, France.

He was at the Defence Headquarters before assuming his most recent role.

Senior officers who spoke on the development expressed profound sorrow over his passing, noting that his legacy of professionalism, commitment to service, and leadership will continue to endure within the Nigerian Navy.
