
A quiet community in Cross River State was thrown into shock on Sunday following the killing of a man allegedly by his 23-year-old son in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area.
The tragic incident occurred at O3 Palace, Usaja, in Ikpakapit Ward, shortly after the victim returned home from church. The suspect, identified as Bassey Ubi, was said to have attacked his father inside their residence, leading to the man’s death.
The development sparked outrage among residents, who attempted to lynch the suspect before police officers swiftly intervened and rescued him from the mob.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Police Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the suspect was believed to have acted under the influence of illicit substances.
He added that the suspect sustained injuries during the mob action and was taken for medical attention before being placed in police custody for further investigation.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the body of the deceased had been deposited at a morgue in Ugep by family members.
The Cross River State Police Command condemned the incident and warned against jungle justice, stressing that members of the public should always report suspected crimes to the authorities, as anyone found taking the law into their hands would face prosecution.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
