At least 34 people were killed on Wednesday when suspected Lakurawa terrorists launched coordinated attacks on rural communities in Kebbi State.
The assaults primarily targeted villages in Arewa Local Government Area, including Bui and neighboring settlements.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed remote communities, opening fire on residents in what survivors described as highly organized and indiscriminate attacks.
Security reports indicate that 16 people died in Mamunu, five in Awashaka, three in Masama, and two each in five other villages.
The violent attacks forced residents to flee, as militants invaded homes and shot at civilians. Security forces have since been deployed to protect affected communities, assist survivors, and prevent the terrorists from escaping.

Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bashir Usman confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru, condemned the attacks, describing them as the work of “heartless terrorists.”
Zuru added that the Kebbi State Government, under Governor Nasir Idris, is committed to safeguarding lives and property.
He noted that most of the attackers are spillovers from Niger Republic and Sokoto, lacking permanent bases in Kebbi.
“The latest attacks are the last kick of a dying horse,” Zuru said, assuring that the government, in collaboration with the Nigerian military, will continue operations until security challenges in the area are resolved. Survivors will also receive immediate assistance from the state.
