It is with deep pain in my heart that I share the news of Henry Nwosu MON’s death. May he rest peacefully with our Creator in Heaven.”
Born in Imo State, Nwosu was the youngest member of Nigeria’s squad that lifted the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations trophy, securing the country’s first continental title on home soil.
His passing comes just days after Nigerian football mourned another legend, former Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde, who guided Nigeria to the 2002 FIFA World Cup and died on March 9 at the age of 88.
Both Nwosu and Onigbinde played pivotal roles in the Green Eagles’ footballing history during the 1980s.
At club level, Nwosu featured for teams including New Nigeria Bank F.C. and Stationery Stores F.C. After retiring, he dedicated himself to coaching and youth development.
