A 14-year-old British-Nigerian boy, Eghosa Ogbebor, has been shot dead in the Woolwich area of London, sparking outrage and renewed concerns over rising youth violence in the United Kingdom.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday, revealing that officers responded to reports of a shooting at about 3:40 pm on Thursday, April 2, on Lord Warwick Street.
Emergency responders, including paramedics, rushed to the scene and made efforts to save the teenager. However, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Although formal identification is still pending, authorities have named the victim as Eghosa Ogbebor. His family has been notified and is currently receiving support from specially trained officers.
In connection with the incident, police have arrested three suspects two boys aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man on suspicion of murder. All three remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and called on the public to assist with information.

The tragic killing has once again highlighted growing concerns about youth-related violence in the UK.
Incidents involving teenagers have been on the rise, raising alarms among authorities and communities alike.
In a similar case earlier this year, a 17-year-old was charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of John Onetufo, a 23-year-old Nigerian, in the Lewisham area of London on New Year’s Eve.
Police say investigations into Ogbebor’s death are ongoing.
