
Thai authorities have arrested eleven Nigerian nationals in Thailand over an alleged romance scam, following complaints from foreign victims.
Police said the suspects were picked up during coordinated raids on apartments in Bangkok and nearby areas, after weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.
Investigators allege that the group used social media and dating platforms to pose as romantic partners, gradually building trust before requesting money.
Victims were allegedly persuaded to send funds for fabricated reasons such as business setbacks, medical emergencies, or travel expenses.

During the operation, officers recovered mobile phones, laptops, SIM cards, and financial documents believed to be linked to the fraud.
Preliminary checks reportedly uncovered extensive online chats and transaction records involving victims in several countries.
Authorities said the suspects are being investigated for fraud, cybercrime, and immigration violations, including visa overstays and lack of valid work permits Police noted that the investigation is ongoing, with possible additional arrests as efforts continue to trace accomplices and recover illicit funds.
The arrests reflect Thailand’s broader crackdown on online scams, while authorities urged the public to remain cautious in online relationships involving money. Suspects remain in custody pending formal charges.
